Charitable Giving

in 2018, we were able to donate thousands to charity. In 2019, we are taking a new approach to our charitable giving in hopes that we will be able to give even more. This year we are happy to donate a percentage of every item sold to one of 12 different charities we've chosen to support. The amount donated from each item varies based on the cost of the item and we are well on our way to being able to donate thousands this year as well.

You can track our charitable progress on each of our product pages with the donation tracker!

We thought it would be a great idea to outline all of the charities we've chosen to work with in order to give you a better idea as to where you'd like to allocate the donations made possible by your purchases. When you're ready to checkout, simply head to your shopping cart and at the top of the page you'll find a drop-down menu to choose from 12 different charities. You may also choose to split the donation from your order evenly amongst them all.

Here's who you help support, when you support Emmy + Dove.

Save the Children

Save the Children is the worlds first global charity for children. Established in 1919, they provide life saving medical, educational and emergency assistance to children in need all over the world. Did you know that every day 16,000 Children die before their 5th birthday from preventable diseases? Save the Children provides life-saving vaccinations and medical care to children who otherwise might meet that same statistic. They also provide the means for an education to the 1 in 6 children worldwide who would otherwise miss out on critical schooling. In addition to the work they do in the US and worldwide, Save the Children also helps children affected and displaced by violence and global conflicts. They are a wonderful organization who spend almost 90% of the donations they receive on their mission to save the lives of children everywhere. The rest is split evenly between fundraising and the costs of operation.

The Fistula Foundation

Obstetric fistula is one of the most serious and tragic childbirth injuries. It is a hole between the birth canal and bladder or rectum caused by prolonged, obstructed labour, without access to timely, high-quality medical treatment. It leaves women leaking urine, faeces or both, and often leads to chronic medical problems, depression, social isolation and deepening poverty.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, The Arab region and Latin America and the Caribbean, some 2 million women are estimated to be living with fistula. 50,000 to 100,000 new cases develop each year. Obstetric Fistula is almost entirely preventable with proper medical care and treatment. The fact that it still run rampant through the poorest parts of the world, is a sign and testament of global inequality and the shortcomings in health systems that fail to protect the most vulnerable among us.

The Fistula Foundation provides life-changing surgeries to the women affected by Obstetric Fistulas, giving them hope and a new chance at a fulfilling life and journey through motherhood. in the last 10 years, they've provided surgeries to almost 40,000 women who otherwise would have had to live their lives on the outskirts of society, suffering with incontinence and embarrassment. They work to help provide preventative healthcare too, to ensure that less cases of Obstetric Fistula develop.

The National Women's Law Center

The National Women's Law Center has been at the forefront of every major advancement for women in the last 40 years. They work toward policies and laws that help women and girls become exactly who they were meant to be by ensuring they can reach their potential at home, in school and in their communities. They have also started a new legal defense fund for the movement to end Sexual Harassment in the workplace, TIME'S UP.

“Sexual harassment and assault is rampant. So many people need help fighting back – especially women working at low-wage jobs who can’t afford attorneys to represent them. And so many of our workplaces need structural change. More women at the top. Equal pay. Safety, no matter where you work or live. And so much more. On January 1, 2018, we announced the creation of TIME’S UP and the TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund. We had $13 million in commitments from 200 donors. Today, more than 21,000 people from around the world have contributed more than $22 million to connect women who experience workplace sexual harassment and retaliation with attorneys and, in some cases, media specialists.” - https://nwlc.org/times-up-legal-defense-fund/

CAMFED is an incredible organization that provides education and educational resources and aid to girls in the poorest parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. There, millions of girls are disadvantaged educationally, keeping women and girls impoverished and vulnerable in the systemic poverty system. CAMFED believes that by education one, they educate many more. They inspire the girls they work with to become leaders in their own right, helping other girls and women to get educated and break the poverty cycle. The proof of their efforts is in their CAMA program, founded by a group of 400 girls who completed school with the help of CAMFED. The sought to establish an alumni network that would benefit their countries and the most vulnerable girls in them with the help of CAMFED. Now, those girls and others like them are at the forefront of educational development in their own countries and on the global stage. Since 2014 CAMFED has supported 744,142 girls in secondary schools.
