Amelia Earhart is one of the most mysterious and inspiring women in history. In her quest to be the first woman to circumnavigate the world, her plane disappeared and neither she, nor her navigator Fred Noonan, were ever found.
Over the years there have been many theories, and one can only hope we are close to solving the mystery or what happened to Amelia Earhart. Her disappearance, however, is only a fraction of her story. She was an incredibly smart, courageous and talented woman with a love for the sky and the determination to do anything she wanted to.
Just one year after Charles Lindbergh completed his solo flight across the Atlantic, Amelia Earhart was given the chance to complete the flight as well, making her the first woman to complete a transatlantic flight; first as a passenger and then as an aviatrix, or female pilot.
When Amelia married her husband, publisher George P. Putnam, she referred to their marriage as a partnership, sharing the breadwinning responsibilities, the responsibilities at home and keeping her own last name. She was known to refer to him as Mr. Earhart too. While today, the idea of shared responsibilities in a marriage is becoming the norm, in the 1930's it would have been rather progressive!
We can only wonder what else Amelia may have been able to do had she been successful with her circumnavigation. Instead we remember her to for her fearlessness, gumption and sense of adventure in the face of fear.
To celebrate Amelia, we have made an adorable vintage jumper with cute little airplanes all over the gorgeous pink background.
